Sungai Watch
The environmental organization Sungai Watch created by 3 French people who grew up in Bali is fighting against the urgent phenomenon of pollution in Indonesia thanks to the installation of barriers in rivers, a simple, inexpensive and effective technology which makes it possible to stop waste plastics and thus prevent them from flowing into the ocean. The project is carried out with local teams, from collection to sorting of waste which is analyzed (type and brand/factory from which it comes) in order to identify and act on the causes of pollution. Since October 2020, 150 barriers have been installed in Bali; they made it possible to collect more than 700 tonnes of plastic. Sungai Watch now plans to deploy 1,000 barriers more widely across Indonesia and thus relentlessly continues its ecological fight for future generations.
